As a cracking 2015 approaches I feel it’s important to carry these word in our hearts, to apply them to the decisions we make and to remember…it’s up to us to BE the change we wish to see in the world!
2015 is it! I am making this commitment here in writing on SolarGirl to: Be brave. Be joyful. Be empowered. Be daring. Live my purpose. Love fully with no boundaries. Believe in magic. Change the way things are done, the way we live and use this divine planet (and save a whopping amount of money for businesses and CO2 emissions along the way)!
It’s time to sexy-up one of the most important industries of our time – Solar Power. I vow to use every day, with this as my ONE thing, my purpose.
I’ve been lucky to spend the last 3 days at the beautiful South Coast of NSW – a place called Longbeach – with my gorgeous cousins and their 16 month-old boy, Hugo. And I couldn’t help thinking about these words as I celebrated his every discovery – every beautiful little smile he threw my way, and how much he relied on his mum and dad every second.
I had, what an amazing business mentor of mine refers to as, a fry pan moment. You know, that feeling of realization that’s like you’ve been smacked in the face with a frying pan (in a good way of course – I actually have them pretty frequently)…
So here it is…We may grow up, move out of home, become financially self sufficient, start our own companies, run Governments, power up the corporate ranks… but that reliance on our parents at a fundamental level never leaves. We trust them implicitly to have our best interests at heart. That the world they bring us into is safe, with opportunities for education, career and love – a world in a better state than the one they were born into.
In my idol Lord Nicholas Stern’s words, we have the opportunity to make this the ‘best of centuries or the worst of centuries’. In my heart I feel this is a super exciting time – countries such as China and the US make ground-breaking commitments to combat climate change, technology is advancing in ways not even the best B-grade sci-fi could predict.
But are we doing enough? Fast enough? I mean, Bangladesh (a whole country) is forecast to be under water in the next few decades because of climate change! WTF?! And whether you believe in climate change or not, we are now using 1.5 earths worth of resources – the non-renewable kind. So is this really a world that’s worth serving up to our children; for them to enjoy every succulent mouthful life has to offer???
I’m setting some strong intentions this NYE to make sure that answer YES! Because I want Hugo to travel, to see other countries and cultures, to dive the barrier reef, to know what a polar bear is! I don’t want these things to be legend – told only in storybooks to his children, while wars over food shortages and land reign supreme.
This is not a post for me to harp on about the negative – it is New Year’s Eve and time to celebrate! We are powerful beyond measure and it’s time to put that power to work.
Rock on 2015!!! SGx
